You can find yourself enjoying a whitewater rafting adventure down the Animas River, a tour through the Colorado mountains by an ATV or jeep, or you could be taking on an exhilarating journey through the forest by a zip line.

Whitewater Rafting

Durango is nothing short of impressive when it comes to whitewater rafting thrills. You will have a complete blast splashing and laughing your way down the lower Animas River. The COA guides are well experienced and will tell you all about the history of the Wild West and educate about the natural resources in the area (with some laid-back vibes of course)!

You and your family will be able to experience the thrilling Class 2 and Class 3 rapids that have people talking for months including Smelter, Sawmill, Ponderosa, and Santa Rita rapids. You can choose to go on a 4-hour or 8-hour trip and they are typically available from May 1st – October 15th (water levels permitting).

Make sure you bring a swimsuit and acceptable footwear- you will need to prepare to get soaked on this adventure!

Jeep Tours

Sit back and relax (well maybe on the edge of your seat…) while their experienced Jeep tour guides take you on an expedition to enjoy the Southwest Colorado scenery while taking the path-less-traveled. The guide will educate you on the old mining stories of Southwest Colorado and will provide valuable details on the local flora and fauna of the area. 

The jeep tours are family-friendly and all of the jeep guides make sure that you have the best adventure while practicing the highest safety standards. This is your chance to experience the awesome power of nature in a backcountry setting without going camping as you explore beautiful scenic mountains and cascading waterfalls as you traverse through Kennebec Pass. The 4-hour expedition will take you into La Plata Canyon, which is hidden in the La Plata mountains (in a place only off-road vehicles can go). 

If you are interested in exploring these areas without the assistance of a jeep guide, then maybe renting an ATV or RZR would be the right option for you. 

ATV & RTV Rentals

So, you want to enjoy the scenery of Southwest Colorado but without the guide? No problem! Colorado Outback Adventures has a large selection of both ATVs and RZRs that can take your outdoor experience to the next level. If you are interested in taking out a vehicle for 1 or 2 people, an ATV might be a great and safe choice for you. If you would like to take the whole family out for a ride, make sure to check out the RZR vehicles, which seat up to 4 people.

To rent an ATV or RZR, you must first present a valid driver’s license and credit card for damage deposit. The minimum driving age is 21 and the minimum riding age is 5.
